Meet Debra

Workforce Challenge

An eight year Army & National Guard veteran, Debra, has been unemployed since 2010. She possesses unique skills and qualifications as a Battalion Retention Manager, Brigade Food Service Adviser/Business Owner and a Sexual Assault Response Coordinator.

Workforce Solution

In May 2014, Ms. Mendez attended our monthly Veteran’s Job Club session located at the Randallstown office, Baltimore County Workforce Development Center on the campus of CCBC. While there she established a strong connection with DVOP Fuller and Ms. Mendez was inspired to come into the Eastpoint Workforce Development Center. While there she was able to get one-on-one vocational guidance counseling. This involved restructuring her resume, utilizing effective techniques to incorporate the best words for her resume, and help with tailoring her cover letters to fit specific jobs.

Outcomes & Benefits

As a result of her determination, participating in the monthly Veterans Job Club, and initiating assistance of the DVOP’s at the various locations in the Baltimore area Debra secured full-time employment with Unidine (St. Martin's Home) as a Cook Supervision. Debra is also a graduate student in the Master’s Program at Walden University as of June 2nd 2014 with a strong interest or emphasis in Mental Health Counseling & Sexual Assault Advocacy& Awareness.
