Meet Soniya

Workforce Challenge

Soniya D. came into the Waldorf One-Stop Center on a mission to find employment. Beginning her job search process, Mrs. D. seemed to doubt her ability to effectively complete an online application. Soniya began to build a relationship with the Job Service Specialist team, as she searched for assistance using the Resource Area. She was eager to learn and the staff was passionate about empowering Mrs. D. Considering her relatively lack of computer skills, the biggest challenge to come was clear.

Workforce Solution

Mrs. D. devoted an impressive amount of time to the Waldorf One-Stop Center ensuring she would reach the goals she had set. By becoming a consistent customer, Mrs. D. was able to develop a strong resume and gain assistance with successfully completing applications. Job Service Specialists also encouraged Mrs. D. to become organized by keeping record of all usernames, passwords and positions for which she applied. As the application process became easier, another wall of discouragement was built by the challenge of landing an interview and getting the job. With the motivation and support from Job Service Specialist, Soniya stayed positive and kept pushing forward.

Outcomes & Benefits

Currently, Soniya holds both full-time and part-time postions in the medical field and is very appreciative for the help she received. At her full-time position located at Genesis of Waldorf, Mrs. D. works in the rehab department as a Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA). She assists patients recently released from surgery and those who suffer from injuries, and has received Employee of the Month. At her part-time job, she works at Fort Washington's Rehabilitation Facility as a home nurse.
