Meet John...

Workforce Challenge

Although John was awaiting a determination regarding his disability application through the Veteran Administration, he wanted to secure part-time employment. John was residing at the Westside Shelter in Catonsville when he sought employment assistance from Baltimore County’s Mobile Career Center (MCC). Although John had an extensive employment history and was a military veteran, he disclosed that he had a criminal background as well.

Workforce Solution

Community Action Network (CAN), the managers of the Westside Shelter referred John to the MCC for employment assistance. Both CAN and the Department of Social Services (DSS) provided resources and case management support. Through contact with the MCC, John was referred to the Baltimore County American Job Center at the Liberty Center where he received Veteran Services as well as a referral to Baltimore County’s Department of Aging. The Department of Aging approved John as a participant in the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) employment program.

Outcomes & Benefits

John received and accepted a part-time employment offer with the American Red Cross as a driver via the SCSEP Program. John started in September of 2015.
