Meet Troy

Workforce Challenge

Troy had been the Principal of his own Construction/Architectural Project Management company for 20 years, but has had greater difficulty obtaining stable clients and consistent income. He wanted to transition to more traditional employment and needed additional credentials to match his background and experience in the field.

Workforce Solution

The staff at the Hunt Valley Career Center helped Troy apply for WIA funding for the Towson University Center for Professional Studies Online Project Management Professional (PMP) Preparation Course. Troy obtained the funding and he successfully completed on January of 2015. He passed the PMP exam and earned his PMP credential on November of that year.

Outcomes & Benefits

He benefited from the various career services, but WIA funding for the PMP training and credential made a significant impact on his employment goal. He now has stable employment at a high salary level. With this new credential, he was able to first obtain employment as a Project Manager for a targeted employer earning $90,000 a year starting in December of 2015. When this project ended, he accepted a new Project Management position with another company earning $100,000 per year plus benefits.
