Meet Michelle

Workforce Challenge

Michelle came to the Hunt Valley American Job Center in November just 2-weeks after being laid off as Senior Operations Analyst. Her primary challenge was to build additional credentials in order to increase her earning potential. She has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in her field and exceptional work experience. Michelle was targeting high level positions in healthcare management paying $105,000 - $115,000 as her previous position paid $104,000.

Workforce Solution

Michelle attended a RESEA workshop as part of her unemployment claim. She also attended the Hunt Valley AJC Job Readiness, Résumé and Cover Letter, and Interviewing Strategies workshops. Working with Career Consultant, Andre Fuhrman, they completed the WIOA program eligibility process and worked on updating her résumé. Michelle completed a ProveIt! assessment on Project Management Professional (PMP) Fundamentals and she and Ms. Fuhrman researched the PMP credential, training providers, and labor market demand. Michelle was approved for pre-vocational MS Project and occupational Project Management training at UMBC.

Outcomes & Benefits

Michelle continued job searching and was offered a position, which she describes as her ideal job. She will work remotely as a Healthcare Product Manager for a large consulting firm outside of Maryland. While she was targeting positions with salaries of $105 – 115,000, her job offer included a salary of $125,000 plus bonus. Michelle worked with the employer to ensure that she will be able to complete the PMP training in May 2018.
