Meet Lesley

Workforce Challenge

Lesley was laid off from her position as a Photo Retoucher and Asset Manager for a small photography studio. She was receiving Unemployment Insurance benefits, and was concerned about finding another job in her field. As a young professional with limited work experience, Lesley expressed concern about getting a foothold into her career path.

Workforce Solution

Career Consultant, Andrea Fuhrman worked with Lesley over several months on her job search strategy. Lesley completed a TABE and My Next Move / O*net Interest Profiler assessments. Lesley needed a lot of encouragement to network more actively. She and Ms. Fuhrman practiced interviewing skills via a mock interview and Lesley used her as a sounding board as she progressed in her job search and considered several part time opportunities. We explored training options, sought, and were granted WIOA funding for pre-vocational training. Lesley completed a WIOAfunded InDesign Introduction course in late March. This expanded her technical skills in graphic design and complemented her photography background. Lesley benefited from many resources.

Outcomes & Benefits

Lesley had a connection at her target dream employer, but she felt uncomfortable reaching out to network. Ms. Fuhrman encouraged and coached her on ways to make that connection. Lesley reached out to the employer and was told to apply for a Photo Retoucher position on the company’s web site. She applied, interviewed and was selected for the job. This position fulfills all of her goals. It turns out the company posted the position because of her networking outreach.
