Community Challenge/Problem

Over 435,000 veterans call Maryland home according to the US Dept. of Veterans Affairs, In 2013, 5.9 percent of these veterans were unemployed. One of the O'Malley-Brown Administration's 16 Strategic Goals is full employment for veterans by year-end 2015.

Board Solution/Innovation

On June 1, 2014, the O'Malley-Brown Administration launched Operation Hire: Maryland's 100 Day Veteran Hiring Challange. This state-wide challenge encourages employers to hire Maryland veterans and complements the supportive services already in place at the American Job Centers and other agencies.

Outcomes & Results

Employers can more readily add a valued resource to their ranks, and more veterans can be gainfully employed. Visit the DLLR Website for more information.
