Meet Amazon...

Community Challenge/Problem

There is a shortage of positions available in Baltimore City. Since the closing of the General Motors (GM) plant in 2005 and the subsequent loss of more than 1000 jobs, Baltimore has struggled to replace those once high-wage, blue-collar jobs lost.

Board Solution/Innovation

Amazon, popular online retailer, has teamed with the Mayor's Office of Employment Development (MOED) at the Eastside One Stop Career Center to assist hopefuls in completing applications online. Amazon is seeking to hire for 1000 warehouse positions for a fulfillment and distribution center opening in the old GM plant in the Spring of 2015.

Outcomes & Results

Hundreds of locals attended information sessions held at the Eastside One Stop Career Center in Baltimore on Wednesday, 2.4.15 to learn the benefits and expectations of employ with Amazon.
