Workforce Testimonial Quote Submitted By:

Meet Tammy C.

"Nancy-

I just wanted to take the time to thank you and Tom for the wonderful services that you offer at POAC. I took the two-day class in November of 2013. Before I took the class, I sent out several resumes with no response. During the class, I learned how to prepare targeted resumes and that I should only apply to jobs where I had at least 90% of the skills/qualifications listed in the job announcement. After I started doing that, I got a number of calls for interviews.

To prepare for the interviews, I made a list of the most frequently asked interview questions-as you suggested during the class- and I prepared stock answers to all of them. I then customized my answers so that whatever I said was specific to the needs of the employer with whom I was interviewing. That was particularly important for the " tell us about yourself" and "why should we hire you" questions. I then practiced the questions and answers until I felt comfortable. Doing this netted me second and third interviews with all of the employers who contacted me for interviews. I prepared well thought out questions for the interviewers and sent thank you notes or e-mails after each interview. I also made certain that I contacted my references to let them know that a specific employer might be calling. This is a particularly important, but often overlooked part of the job search.

To make a long story short, I was offered a temporary job in March. Unfortunately, that job ended in May. On today, I was offered a job as a Senior Staff Attorney with the National School Boards Association. I start on Monday, August 11, 2014. This is a job that I think that I will love as I will be doing work I believe to be very important. I do not believe that I would have gotten this job had I not attended the class.

In closing, I would like to thank you, again. You offer a service that is so wonderful and valuable. I also wanted to let you know that I am available to "pay it forward." I cannot attend any meetings during the day, since I will be starting a new job. I am available on the weekends and would be available after 7:00 p.m. during the evenings to help anyone who might benefit from what I learned during my job search. I will also work with anyone personally who might need encouragement or help with doing a resume or some other aspect of the job search.

Thanks again,

Tammy C."
