- The 2009 estimate of Alaska's population is 692,314.
- Alaska’s population is projected to increase by nearly 25 percent from 2009 to 2034, growing to 862,750. The number of seniors (age 65-plus) is expected to grow the most of any age group, more than doubling in size as Alaska’s baby boomers age. Alaska’s Native population is projected to increase by more than 45,000 by 2034.
- From 2008 to 2018, Alaska is projected to add 33,670 new jobs and have about 89,000 job vacancies created by workers who leave their occupations – all together that’s nearly 123,000 job openings.
- Seventeen of Alaska’s 20 fastest growing occupations from 2008 to 2018 are health care related. The fastest growing occupations are projected to be home health aides, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and personal and home care aides.
