Workforce Success Story Submitted By: Employment Services of Weld County

Workforce Challenge

Latoya, a 16-year-old who was detached from her parents, as she had dropped out of high school and lacked a high school diploma or High School Equivalency (HSE). She tried an alternative online program which also didn't work for her.

Workforce Solution

Latoya and a friend met with a Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Youth Programs case manager and made a pact to enroll into the WIOA program to achieve their goal together. Although her friend achieved her High School Equivalency (HSE) much quicker than Latoya; she stayed determined.

Outcomes & Benefits

During her time with WIOA she participated in a work-based learning (WBL) work experience placement, which helped assist the family who was hosting her by providing extra income. After 10 months of program enrollment, Latoya achieved her goal of HSE obtainment. Latoya has since found permanent employment and exited from the program as a success.
