KEY WORKFORCE PRIORITIES

The State Workforce Investment Board supports a Demand Driven approach to providing services to both employers and job seekers. Under the Demand Driven approach, employers are our primary customers.

2.

Training resources will focus on occupations that prepare Utah workers for good jobs and global competition.

3.

State-of-the-art technology and other innovations will be used to improve customer service, expand self-service and maximize efficiencies.

4.

The SWIB will develop a strategy to address Utah’s healthcare needs and shortages.

  • Utah ranks eighth in the U.S. for highest proportion of jobs requiring postsecondary education.
  • 66% of all jobs in Utah will require post secondary credentials or degrees by 2018.
  • Utah’s industry targets include Healthcare, Hospitality & Leisure, Manufacturing and Renewable Energy.
  • Utah’s employment base has grown by over 1 percent over the past 12 months.
  • Industries in Utah adding jobs to their employment base over the past year are: Professional and Business services have added nearly 4,000 new jobs. Healthcare has added 3,000. This is one of the better employment growth rates in the western United States.
  • Utah has the youngest workforce in the country.
