FAST FACTS

  • In program year 2009, New York State’s One Stop system served 756,228 Adult participants and 17,927 Youth participants and put 39,319 people into training.
  • The 2010 Significant Industries Report outlines New York State’s 12 industries that are fast growth, large growth or high wage. They fall into six major industry groups: construction, manufacturing, financial activities, professional and business services (which primarily sell to other businesses), educational services, and health care.
  • New York offers a variety of technology based tools to assist jobseekers and businesses. These include:
- SMART (Skills Matching and Referral Technology) program: New York state is one of the first states to harness artificial intelligence technology to provide customers with job leads. SMART reads a customer’s resume, understanding the knowledge, skills and abilities, and provides job leads in line with the customer’s past job duties. To date, 170,000 resumes have been submitted. 
- JobCentral , the NY State Job Bank 
- JobZone, a career planning tool for adults 
- CareerZone, a career exploration tool for youth 
- Youth Portal, a website dedicated to youth employment information: “Dream It, Plan It, Make It Happen!”
-Regional Business Service Teams located in each of ten regions of the state collaborate across local workforce investment areas to gather workforce intelligence and address business needs using industry based strategies.
